ChatGPT is a large language model chatbot developed by OpenAI. It was launched in late November 2022 and quickly gained popularity, reaching 100 million active users in just two months. This makes it the fastest-growing consumer application in history.

Bard is Google's AI-powered chatbot that is designed to provide fresh, high-quality responses to user queries. It is powered by LaMDA, a large language model that is trained on a massive dataset of text and code.

Here are some of the similarities between Bard and ChatGPT:

  • They are both trained on massive amounts of text data.
  • They can both communicate and generate human-like text in response to a wide range of prompts and questions.
  • They are both still under development, but they have learned to perform many kinds of tasks, including answering your questions in an informative way, even if they are open ended, challenging, or strange.
  • Generating different creative text formats, like poems, code, scripts, musical pieces, email, letters, etc.

Here are some of the differences between Bard and ChatGPT:

  • Bard is trained on a more recent dataset of data, which means that it has access to more up-to-date information.
  • Bard is integrated into Google's search engine, which means that it can access and process information from the real world in real time.
  • Bard is designed to be more informative and comprehensive than ChatGPT.
  • ChatGPT often answers with more of a creative and story-telling nature compared to Bard.

What Advantages Does Bard Have Over ChatGPT?

Access to The Internet

Bard has access to the internet in real time, which means that it can draw on the latest information and research. ChatGPT, on the other hand, is trained on a dataset that was collected in 2021. This means that Bard is more likely to be able to provide accurate and up-to-date information.

Larger Dataset

Bard is trained on a dataset that is 100 times larger than the dataset that ChatGPT is trained on. This means that Bard has a better understanding of the world and can generate more comprehensive and informative responses.

More Capable of Coding

Bard is capable of coding in over 20 programming languages. ChatGPT, on the other hand, is only capable of coding in a few programming languages. This means that Bard is more useful for developers and other professionals who need to write code.

Speech Prompts

Bard's voice option allows users to interact with it by speaking, rather than typing. This can be helpful for users who are unable to type, or who prefer to speak.

Multiple Drafts (x3)

When you ask Bard to do something, it will generate multiple versions of its response, which are displayed as drafts. You can then choose the draft that you like best. This is a helpful feature for users who want to have more control over the final product.

What Advantages Does ChatGPT Have Over Bard?

Creativity

ChatGPT is better at generating creative content, such as poems, stories, and scripts. Bard is still learning this skill, and it is not yet as good as ChatGPT at generating creative content.

Conversational Learning

ChatGPT can learn from the conversations it has with people. Bard does this in a much more limited way at the moment.

1. Creating Page Titles and Meta Descriptions

Both Bard and ChatGPT have the potential to create great page titles and meta descriptions for SEO. However, there are some key differences between the two models that could make one better suited for this task than the other.

Bard is trained on a massive dataset of text and code, which gives it a deep understanding of the world and the ability to generate comprehensive and informative content. This makes it well-suited for tasks such as writing page titles and meta descriptions, which should be both informative and engaging.

ChatGPT is also trained on a massive dataset of text, but it is specifically designed for conversational purposes. This means that it is better at generating creative and engaging content. While this may not seem like an ideal skill for SEO, it could actually be beneficial in some cases. For example, a creative and engaging page title or meta description could help to attract more clicks and improve click-through rate (CTR).

ChatGPT’s Response:

Ultimately, which language model is better for creating page titles and meta descriptions for SEO depends on the specific needs of the website or business. If the goal is to create informative and engaging content that will attract more clicks, then ChatGPT may be a better choice. However, if the goal is to create comprehensive and informative content that will help the website rank higher in search results, then Bard may be a better choice.

2. Creating Opening Paragraphs for Landing Pages

If you wanted Bard or ChatGPT to create opening paragraphs for landing pages, their approach would be similarly to Page Titles and Meta Descriptions creation. Using the topic of SEO this is what they came up with.

Bard’s Response:

SEO, or search engine optimization, is the process of improving the ranking of a website in search engine results pages (SERPs). This can be done by optimizing the website's content, structure, and code. SEO can be a complex and time-consuming process, but it can be very effective in increasing website traffic and leads.

ChatGPT’s Response:

SEO is a complex and ever-changing field, but it's one of the most important aspects of online marketing. By optimizing your website for search engines, you can ensure that your content is visible to potential customers who are searching for the products or services you offer. There are a number of factors that contribute to good SEO, including keyword research, content optimization, and link building. By following best practices and staying up-to-date on the latest trends, you can improve your website's ranking in search results and attract more visitors.

Again as you can see Bard is more concise and informative, ChatGPT is more creative and of a story-telling nature. Both concise and informative content, as well as creative and engaging content, can be beneficial for SEO ranking. However, the best type of content for your website will depend on a number of factors, including your target audience, your industry, and your overall marketing goals.

Concise and informative content is typically more helpful for SEO ranking because it is easier for search engines to index and understand. However, concise and informative content can sometimes be dry and boring, which can make it difficult to attract and retain users.

Creative and engaging content can be more effective at attracting and retaining users, but it can be more difficult to optimize for SEO. This type of content often uses humor, storytelling, or other techniques that make it more entertaining for users, but these techniques can also make it more difficult for search engines to understand the content.

The best approach is to strike a balance between concise and informative content, as well as creative and engaging content. Your content should be informative and helpful, but it should also be engaging and interesting. By finding the right balance, you can create content that will rank well in search engines and keep users coming back for more.

Interestingly Bard provided a little more detail around it's responsed, for ChatGPT we would have to use an additional prompt to get this information. But in terms of achieving the basic task asked they both answered it. So both Bard and ChatGPT can be used to help write page titles and meta descriptions. They can also both be used to great intro paragraphs on landing pages.

Bard answers may help with ranking but ChatGPT’s responses should not be ignored as they may receive more click-through. Depending on your audience you might favour one AI over another.

4. ChatGPT and Bard Can Also be Used for Other Things:

  • Creating a summary of a long form article, that can be placed at the top of a page (Bard may be better for this to ensure the content at the top of the page is better for SEO being more concise and informative)
  • Creating an engaging excerpt for article thumbnails/teasers (ChatGPT may be better for this due to it’s more creative wording)
  • Consolidated information found on the web and creating a unique article based on this information.
  • Rewriting an article that seems a bit dull.
  • Spell checking and grammar checking.

Summary

Both Bard and ChatGPT are great assistants to help you complete some SEO tasks easily and this to an extent includes copy writing.

Where Bard and ChatGPT are both limited is for things like authoritative opinions, experience-based reviews, real people discussing products or services, case studies, however, it can be used to create a framework around this type of content.

A human touch is still needed and when it comes to creating something super compelling, it’s this quality content that is always going to rank best.
